Let There Be Light by PatGoltz Let There Be Light by PatGoltz
Some of us who are photographers are keenly aware that we would accomplish nothing if it were not for two gifts from God: beautiful scenery, and light. This photo illustrates this graphically. I didn't supply the phenomenal canyon, and I didn't supply the light. Being there at the right time was an "accident". All I did was aim my camera (which involves a knowledge of composition, 'tis true, and a knowledge of camera, lenses, and film) and operate the shutter. Even my gift as a photographer is exactly that: a gift. Not everyone can go to such a beautiful place. I do photography for the people who cannot, so that you may share in what I was able to see and capture.

This is a "re-do" of Let There Be Light - Antelope Canyon. I used a different shot, with the viewpoint placed lower, to give more foreground, which removed the ambiguous light at the top of the picture, on the suggestion of another deviant (see below). I had it made into an 8x12 GLOSSY print, to eliminate "sparkles" and "dust" from the matte finish. I rescanned it at high resolution. I have cleaned up all the dust and scratches that my scanner graciously provided (it was a lot of work). It is, in my opinion, a better picture. Some of you have placed the other image on your wishlist, and I promised to provide you with a better one. You may wish for either one which appeals to you; this one will be available in larger size prints. Thank you so much for your support, and I hope you enjoy this new version.

Edit: A gazillion thanks to :icongarrit: for featuring this as a DD! I am overwhelmed! And thank you to all who visit, and comment, and favor it! I have been reminded that it was :iconstumbleine179: who offered the critique that resulted in my posting this newer version, and I want to convey my deepest gratitude to him and to his wife for letting me know!

I see a mysterious image of a face with lips, nose, chin, eyes, and a veil pulled back. looking down meditating on the light that shines from above into what would otherwise be darkness.

Do you see it too? That is what I love about this image. That is what makes this so incredibly magical to me. Definitely worth all your effort to make perfect.

I am shocked and amazed. I took a picture of this exact location 20 years ago and titled it the exact same thing. Not only that there have been several other photographers that have photographed the same thing and have titled it the same thing.

Amazing!

This is hardly surprising. There are just some scenes that unequivocally display a very definite eternal message.

I love it. The effect of that light is beautiful.
I specially love the rock formations, they do evoke a natural violence. Also the contours in the rock are so continuous it seems ethereal. Great work!!!!

It's amazing the way this shot catches the light peering into the cave, lighting it up in a brilliant way. I'm yet to see a shot quite like this one.

This is incredibly beautiful! And I don't know if call it "modest" of you, but your description is very humbling and it's always been my vision. But I also tell you that there is an accomplishment in being a photographer, even when the main feature is already provided, and you should know better than me: it's sort of the sensibility and the passion for it, not everybody has that. :)
This shot is captivating

This is gorgeous. I do like this piece. To be honest, it reminds me greatly of the cover of an album by David Lanz and Gary Stoutsos called Living Temples - which can be seen here:

I'm not sure if the cover photo is yours or someone else's (Looks similar to a piece by Lik, but not identical.), but they're both fantastic.

Excellent work.
