Made in Apophysis.

A variation on wire spiral, I here attempt to bring out more detail with my favorite vibrant pastel gradient.

For me, much art has visual meaning and speaks for itself. Please see my journal entry on this subject: [link]

Lovely render!! I adore the colours that you have used on this flame, was it a custom gradient or from a pack? Well done and :fav.

Thank you! The gradient came from a gradient pack I got somewhere. Thanks for the fav, too!

Hay, man...

I've downloaded Apophysis because of this deviation and I've been the whole evening playing with it... and my results are far from yours! How did you do that? ;)

Hey, thanks for the fav! The reason you aren't getting those kinds of results is primarily lack of experience. But I'll tell you what I did to get that particular image. There are some settings under options at the top of the main window (you have to select options twice). One of the tabs lets you set it for three sets of effects like that. I set that, generated a random batch, and picked one I thought I could work with. This one has nine triangles for tugging. To begin with, I had two that were used to create the trangular pattern by teaming up with the fixed white triangle. I had three others that I could use to shape the three parts. I tugged those three to make them flat. Then I used a script to generate three more triangles that caused the spiraling effect. Once I got that, I pulled on the three flat trangles to get more of a pattern, making them less flat (my wire spiral is actually the same fractal, but with the triangles completely flat). I chose another gradient, and moved the rotate around a little bit. That's what I did to get that image. I'm not sure how much that helps at this point, but that's what you have to learn to use it like I do. I have hung around dA, and there don't seem to be a huge number who have learned how to do this kind of work. There are others elsewhere, but people don't seem to put in the effort needed to learn to use it like that. If you look at my friends list, I'm watching about three other people who have that level of skill, and several more who are catching up fast.
