Boojum Tree n Italian Cypress

The boojum tree (Idria columnaris) is native to Baja California. This specimen is unusually tall for a locally planted one. In the native area, they get much taller and often twist around in interesting ways. This doesn't have flowers on it. The plant is drought deciduous, and the leaves are yellowing and falling off. The Italian cypress, right, are not native to the area, but are widely planted. Cupressus sempervirens. I thought the contrast between the two was interesting. The cypress are considerably taller, but look the same height because they are further away.
